Title
Bree needs to talk to her mom. We will meet with the elders later tonight. The drow is Yervanan. Caius goes to talk to Mei. He gives her his dragon chess piece (without the key) and asks her to return it to her father. He says he doesn't know how he got it, but believes it does belong to her father. He says he's still figuring it out and will explain it to her when he understands it. She seems to distrust him - he ignores her distrust and leaves. Bree goes to visit her mom, but sees someone sneaking around outside the temple on the way. To her surprise she sees that it's her mom. She confronts her mom about her association with her Patron. Her mom admits that she can do a bit of magic, small illusions and that kind of thing. She has a patron too - the pseudodragon that lives in the grove. Her patron is particularly fond of apple pies, and minor pranks. We hear a window open upstairs in the inn. Bree runs into the room with the drow, Kais runs outside and looks for an open window. He sees no one outside but Bree finds her mother with a knife in the room with the drow. Bree's mom says that she was compelled by her patron; letting the drow go would be "more interesting". Bree charms her mom and explains to her mom why the drow cannot be let go. Bree's mom insists that she has to do it, because the patron told her to. Bree hears laughter in the back of her head. The charm wears off and her mom gets angry. Bree tells her mom that she is free to leave; Bree's mom says she's not the girl she once knew and leaves in a huff. Kais sets Sirene to watching the window. The elders arrive at the inn. Vulheim joins the meeting, Kitria does not. Bree explains the situation and suggests that the people should evacuate to Clamsford. Bandel feels that Clamsford is actually less secure. He also feels that Ilvara is chasing us, specifically, not Bogdown. Bandel says he does not want to evacuate the town. We hatch a plan to lead the battle away from Bogdown, and lead the dark elves toward Reckenmark by releasing our prisoner on the way. Bandel suggests that instead we could partly evacuate the village, and set up defenses here, and summon Reckenmark here. The question is whether or not this can be done in time. The elders suggest that the witch in the woods might be able to conjure up a portal to transport Caius quickly to Reckenmark. Ezine leads Caius, Bree, and Autun to the willow grove. There is a house woven of living trees. Ezine slams her stick on the ground, and a light comes on inside the willow house. Yarra the willow witch answers the door. She invites the group into the house; she pulls out a scroll case. She asks if Reckenmark has a teleportation circle. Caius says he is sure one has never been used, but when it is described, Caius remembers the circle at Reckenmark, and remembers a song he made up as a child that listed the animal names that described the runes. She creates a circle with the runes using chalk and some kind of sand. Autun offers to go with him, but Caius says Autun is needed here. Yarra reads the scroll; the scroll burns and the circle lights up. Caius disappears, and opens his eyes at Rekenmark. Bree tells her that we are very grateful, and will be happy to do her a solid. She says that keeping the town safe is payment enough. Caius arrives in Reckenmark. Autun guards the prisoner. Ezri takes first watch. She sees a fisherman think about going out and then think better of it. Kais takes second watch; he rides IJmer and sends Sirene up to watch. Sirene sees drow walking along the river, but they seem to be looking for something rather than causing trouble. Kais watches them; they spend all night walking the edge of the river but leave as dawn approaches. Kitria appears to be getting ready to leave. Ezri talks to Kitria; Kitria says she is indeed leaving because the hobbits cannot contribute soldiers. Ezri tells her that's because she cares about these people and this realm. Ezri manages to negotiate for Kitria to stay by offering to be her bedmate for awhile. Bandel shows up, looking exhausted, and produces a list of hobbits who can fight. Bree looks for supplies for alchemists' fire. There are 3 bowmen in the village. We give each of them a vial of drow poison to use in the battle. We try to extend the fortification provided by the dike into a kind of star fort, and plan to build a couple high points with a shield to protect the archers. Mei goes to try to find a horse. There is a surprisingly good horse that was an accidental cross between a priest's horse and a ploughhorse. Bree guards the drow and makes alchemist's fire. She manages to convey to Rocky that he should help us with moving earth. We arrange some bell signals: they are coming from north, south, east, or west; retreat; ? We note that you can see out about as far as the fens from the bell tower; thus we agree on torch signals (same pattern as the bell signals). We give some of the vials of acid and alchemist's fire to the villagers. Autun makes an extra holy water.
We need to: Sort out inventory: who will carry what into battle? Draw a map of the fortifications we're building. Caius should role play out what happens at Reckenmark. Find out which way Kitria is going; if she is going to Reckenmark try to delay her. Find out what the town elders would be willing/able to give in tribute to Reckenmark and if we can make up the difference with gold to get all of Reckenmark to join us in battle. Hand out inspiration! Caius should remember that he heard his mother was ill.
