Drow in a Cave
Tracking the Drow
With watches expired from the night before, we begin our session in the early morning.
Caius has failed to sleep at all because of what he has learned about his family. Clearly bothered, the rest of the Irregulars remain unaware of his new information.
Our adventurers have breakfast and leave a message with the Inn keeper to ask others if anyone has seen anything strange. Then they head out in search of drow tracks, or any evidence that the drow may have come to the village the night before. They take the raft across the river and begin looking for tracks. Finding tracks from the night before they track them back across the river via the rock hop crossing.
After the rock hop river crossing the tracks lead to the shallows created for harvesting eels, fish, and clams. From there the Irregulars could tell the drow had plundered the eel and clam stocks the night before. However, the fish stocks, much closer to the village, had not been bothered.
Ezri transforms into a wolf and begins tracking the smell of stolen eels and clams. This quickly allows the Irregulars to track them to the Honeycomb Cliffs and an entrance to a cave. Believing they have the drow now somewhat cornered, Bree and Autun decide to ride Imer back to town and inform the villagers.
Upon arriving Bree and Autun split up to spread the word faster. Bree talks to the Inn keeper who has no new information, and then heads over to Bendel's house. Bree lets Bendel know about the missing fish, and how they have tracked the drow to a cave entrance. Bendel informs Bree that two more adults were taken from the village two nights ago when the others were captured. Bree and Bendel agree that it would be safest if at night the villagers gathered in the temple, and if the drow come Bendel can light the signal flame.
Meanwhile, Autun has been speaking with the Reckenmark people at the Inn, informing them of the situation, and attemping to gain their aid. They come across as largely uninterested and uncaring. Seperately from her companions, Mae and Autun discuss further. Mae is concerned there may be a large party of drow in the cave based on the amount of food that was taken. And that they may be refugees from the Underdark, fleeing some unknown violence.
Bree and Autun rejoin at the Inn, gather a large basket of provisions from the Inn keeper, and head back to the rest of the Irregulars staking out the cave entrance. No one else joins them.
While Bree and Autun were gone Ezri transformed into a wolf again, and her Caius, and Kais looked for more drow tracks. Sure enough, the tracks from the encounter two nights ago also lead back to the cave entrance. All the drow tracks they end up finding lead back to the cave entrance. By the time their done tracking Bree and Autun have returned and the Irregulars form up near the cave entrance to plan their next move.
Into the Cave
The Irregulars decide they need to explore the cave and perform some reconnaissance. Bree casts Invisible on Kais and Ezri, then Ezri transforms into a giant spider. Kais is silent in his magic boots, and Ezri is close to is as a spider. Like this they make their way into the cave. They have 1 hour until Invisible wears off and they become visible.
Shortly after entering they encounter a trap, but avoid it. Then they pass a water basin, then avoid another trap. Moving to the right they come into a small chamber with six sleeping mats for drow. A couple of them are occupied with drow warriors, but these are not normal drow warriors. Kais can tell from their look that these drow are highly skilled elite veterans. They turn around and take another passage they had passed earlier. While walking down the passage two more veteran warriors pass carrying empty buckets to the basin. Ezri sticks to the ceiling while Kais presses his body hard against the wall. They are not discovered, but why are veteran drow carrying water? This is typically slave work for drow.
They find a room with eight more veteran drow, but with beds for many more. They again turn aoround and investigate the last corridor in the cave. Entering it they begin to hear a woman's voice and believe there to be some kind of ritual happening. Shapes are emerging from a blue light. Man size, possibly drow. A giant four armed beast stands near.
Turning around the two Irregulars beat a hasty retreat to the cave entrance and report what they have seen. Kais states emphatically that Orcus is inside.
While they were inside Bree had a flash of insight and finally worked out how to read her Underland Magic Book.
The Irregulars head back to Bogdown. Along the way Caius explains that the woman he knows as his sister is actually his mother, and Caius is a bastard. Also, Caius and Mae have the same father, but not the same mother. This apparently means a lot to Caius, and the people of Reckenmark, but most in the party are not bothered.
Once back at Bogdown, Bree reports everything they witnessed in the cave to Bendel.
