It is dawn as we return with our prisoner. We take him to the inn and tie him up in a brightly lit room. We leave Rocky on guard duty, communicating via Tongues. | |||
We decide on a good cop/bad cop plan. Bree will play good cop. She brings him food and tells him that she needs to know why they are stealing food, and that she might be able to help him if he'll explain what they are doing. | |||
Caius roughs him up a bit with the rapier and Vicious Mockery. Kais ascertains that he does not speak Common; Kais repeats it in Elvish. Caius signals five-something-eyes and leaves the room. Kais touches his rapier, shrugs, and leaves. | |||
Autun and Ezri (in spider form) enter the room. Ezri takes an exploratory taste of his face with her mandibles. This is creepy as hell (natural 20). | |||
Autun succeeds in getting him to talk. He reveals that Ilvara is trying to channel the power of Orcus, but this has driven her mad. She is trying to summon the entire House of Misrim here to capture a few surface dwellers for a collection. He says she is mad, and that this strange task might be their undoing. Autun exchanges some banter with the drow. The initial force arrived on foot, but she's been summoning the rest on foot. Loth eventually stopped her, and she started worshipping Orcus instead. She seems to be emptying house Misrim - she probably doesn't have the power to do this, but is doing it anyway. He tells Autun that we do not have the forces to go against her - she's been consorting with a -- and bore offspring. It has four arms and is powerful. Two starved kids showed up and told her that she could capture her perfect collection in this direction. He wants to stop her, because she's destroying his house, but he also describes her as terrifying and perfect. He says he will obey her if she gives an order. He doesn't know how many warriors there are, but there are a lot. They will strike in days to a week. There's only one entrance. He asks for his freedom; Autun tells him that he cannot let him free because he would not trust him not to return to Ilvara. Ezri the spider strokes his face, points at one of her eyes, and then leaves. | |||
We take a long rest. Bree talks to Benadryl; she advises evacuating. Benadryl says he will call a meeting of the elders. Bree learns that an old friend is living in a nearby village and may be able to help. | |||
Kais talks to Mae and learns that the books belong to Kitria, and that she has been unwilling to commit Rekenmark forces since her mother fell ill. He reveals to Mae that the book may be important in raising Rekenmark forces. | |||
Bree offers to help him steal the book. He suggests forging a copy; Bree reveals that she is proficient with forgery. | |||
Caius talks to Volheim and tries to persuade him to call the Rekenmark forces into battle. He doesn't really want to leave; he's afraid the fight will happen without him if we leave. Caius offers to go raise the Rekenmark forces for him. He thinks this is a good idea. He signs a document approving the order. | |||
Bree finds a very old lady living in the willow grove who sells him 3 magic inks. She also sells a forgery kit. | |||
Fribano is Bree's friend who is visiting town from the neighboring village (Clamsford). She is pregnant and a little pissy about Bree being a magic user. Bree quizzes her about whether Clamsford has had any trouble with theft (it hasn't) and if it's defensible (no, they replaced part of it with a park). Waterdeep is a couple weeks' away by oxcart. Fribano asks Bree to be the godmother of her child. | |||
