Our adventurers begin at the end of the Three Stooges comedy hour of a fight that ended the last play session. Our party stands in a room with 4 dwarves. One is wearing a grey cloak and immediately in front of the party, while three others are farther away standing next to the cauldron of 'mushroom fertilizer' above a mushroom grow pit. Two of the farther three managed to convince the third to just chill out and stop fighting. So for the time being at least the violence has abated.
Shuushar appears from the rear and begins conversation with the nearest dwarf, wearing the grey cloak. We learn that this dwarf is called Lorthio and they are the Grey Ghosts, but little else. Because three giant spiders appear on the ceiling behind the three far dwarves. At this the three far dwarves scuttle into the mushroom grow pit and the party finds itself in combat. There are two giant spiders and one very giant spider and the party kills them with little trouble and takes no damage. Howver, during the fight all 4 dwarves manage to escape through a side door after shrinking themselves, with what the party believes to be pygmywort.
Having vanquished the spiders and lost the dwarves the party checks out the mushroom grow pit and finds some goodies; 16 pygmywort mushrooms, 16 unknown mushrooms, 20 days of food rations, fir lichen, and 20 crossbow bolts.
The party then moves into a side room containing the makings of an alchemy lab. They search and find money; 2pp, 15gp, 27sp and 5cp. They also find goodies which Bree takes; recipe for Alchemist Fire, recipe for Vial of Acid, ingredients for 2 Alchemist Fires, and ingredients for 4 Vials of Acid.
The party then heads off in the direction the spiders came from. After wandering through some tunnels the party encounters some massive wooden doors that have been propped open, and they pass through them. After a while they hear noises and strange incomprehensible voices coming from a room full of the familiar glowing magical mushrooms. The room has a large mesa in the middle of it upon which the strange voices appear to be emanating. Kais sits upon the mesa and tries to concentrate on a single voice. At this she takes a small amount of psychic damage and is prompted to ask a single question. She asks how to stop what is leaking into the Underdark and receives the following answer.
"Whoever wants to kill the tree has to chop out the root. The root runs in many places. He who has conquered three layers of the abyss wishes to conquer Gracklestugh."
After that the party heard, "The dark prince is here." Which they determine could refer to three different beings; Demogorgon, Orcus or Graz'zt. The party mashes their heads together and determines that Graz'zt must be in Gracklestugh.
The party still can't determine exactly what the room is about. But it is not just noises from the city. Bree casts Comprehend Languages and tries to have the same experience as Kais. She manages to take damage, but is not prompted to ask a question.
The party continues past the mesa and encounters a forest of mushrooms blocking their path. Many of the mushrooms look chewed on and have holes in them. Kais pokes one and centipedes and spiders emerge. Bree casts bonfire on some far mushrooms, which then gets a little out of hand. Oh no, a mushroom forest fire. Spiders and centipedes run out of the burning mushrooms past the adventurers.
Kais uses magehand to make a fire break, like a magical plow, and pushes dirt around to extinguish the fire and open a path through the mushroom forest. With this they progress through the mushroom forest.
Their next encounter is with a group of michonids dancing in a room. There are three adults, five children and a couple spore servants. Voosper is their adult leader and very gregarious. He is a friend of Zuggtmoy and hasn't been to Neverlight Grove in a long time, but wishes to go there and partake in the giant wonderful feast that is soon to occur there. The party is wary of this, but befriends a tiny sprout named Rumpadump that is not interested in any of the dancing or his compatriots. Rumpadump knew Stool and is saddened to hear that he fell in battle, but is happy when Kais and Autun suggest Rumpadump can join them.
Voosper explains that the feast will not be in Gracklestugh because there is no forest here, and they must return to Neverlight Grove. At this the party has learned enough and while Caius and Bree perform a distraction, the rest of the party makes their leave with Rumpadump.
Rumpadump is now an NPC member of Stool's Irregulars.
