In the form of a quaggoth, Derendril was a prisoner in Velkynvelve along with the adventurers. Derendil claims to be an elven prince. Kais speculated that while keeping company with the party was generally beneath him, perhaps Derendil needed the companionship of people to keep himself grounded and not fully become the beast that is his current form. Regardless, Derendril fled in terror at the sight of Demogorgon, thus our adventurers may never know.
